Yesterday, everywhere I turned someone was talking about the Swine Flu.
"Wash your hands"
"Wear surgical masks"
To be honest, I am sick and tired of hearing everybody in a panic.
Lets have a flash back together.... "The Bird Flu"
Sound familiar?
Yes, there were some people who became ill. BUT not near as many people got sick as they were predicting.
So today when I did my daily email check, I was very excited to see an email title:
Swine Flu Cure?
Inside it talked about a possible cure. In a nutshell it said, "If you don't do anything else, go to this site: http://www.betaglucan.org/ , or google Beta Glucan. "
I admit I am still researching this subject (which appears to be checking out, with research from respected schools such as Harvard).
However, my second great piece of information was discovered shortly after I made a post to my facebook page.
I read www.theweeklyweed.com every week. Which is where I went next.
Then I found the article "Cannabis: A Viable Treatment for Swine Flu." Very, very fascinating.
Briefly, here is what it said:
"Cannabis Science Inc. an emerging pharmaceutical cannabis company, reported..." "The Company’s non-toxic lozenge has properties that could alleviate many of the symptoms and harmful effects of the H5N1 bird flu and H1N1 swine flu viruses, and has offered its assistance to HSA today..."

It really makes me feel hopeful hearing about the cures instead of focusing on the problem. I am very excited that there cures surfacing so quickly.
It is even more promising that cannabis is surfacing as a possible cure. People who have been taught that cannabis could never help our country are starting to wake up to the real truth. The truth that has been covered with false propaganda for decades.

President Obama: What Is So Funny About Taxing And Regulating Marijuana?
I am very disappointed with Obama and his total and complete lack of respect for us, the people.
Obama pledged "to open up the White House to the American people." I'm one of the tens of millions of Americans who believe that cannabis should be legally regulated like alcohol. I'm also one of the tens of thousands of Americans who voted to make this subject the most popular question online at Presidential Town Hall. I'm disappointed to learn that he believes that my voice doesn't really matter.

LEGALIZING CANNABIS WILL STIMULATE OUR ECONOMY AND CREATE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.
Legalizing cannabis would not only save us money in expenditures like court and prison costs, but it would provide a major boost to the economy through taxes. It would literally make thousands upon thousands of Americans small business owners over night and provide jobs for many more.
Just look at what California is modestly anticipating. Without taking into consideration how much money would be saved in court and prison costs, California anticipates over $1.5 billion within the first year.
This is not just an issue about smoking pot.
In 1938 Popular Mechanics printed an article about marijuana called 'Billion Dollar Crop.' It was the first time a cash crop had a business potential to exceed a billion dollars. Popular Mechanics also talked about how there are over 25,000 uses for cannabis. I bet a lot of people did not realize how practical it is to legalize marijuana.

In a time where people are concerned with job security, let alone for the thousands attempting to find a job to begin with, just to make money to feed and house our families and afford medical bills, we should NOT laugh at the most viable solution we have in front of us.

San Francisco: State Assemblyman Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco) introduced legislation this week to legalize and regulate the commercial production and sale of cannabis for adults age 21 or over.
The proposal – Assembly Bill 390: The Marijuana Control, Regulation and Education Act – is the first bill ever to be introduced in the California legislature that seeks to tax and control the sale of cannabis.
Ammiano introduced AB 390 at a press conference Monday. Joining the assemblyman in support of the measure were Betty Yee, Chairwoman of the California Board of Equalization (Taxation), Oakland City Council member Rebecca Kaplan, Orange County Superior Court Judge James P. Gray (retired), and Dale Gieringer, Coordinator of California NORML, which provided legislative text and financial analysis for the bill.
"With the state in the midst of an historic economic crisis, the move toward regulating and taxing marijuana is simply common sense," Ammiano said. "This legislation would generate much needed revenue for the state, restrict access to only those over 21, end the environmental damage to our public lands from illicit crops, and improve public safety by redirecting law enforcement efforts to more serious crimes. California has the opportunity to be the first state in the nation to enact a smart, responsible public policy for the control and regulation of marijuana." Local news anchors from CBS, ABC, NBC, and PBS television covered the press conference. National stories regarding Ammiano's bill have appeared in USA Today, as well as on Air America and CNN.
As introduced, AB 390 would raise over $1.3 billion in annual revenue by taxing the retail production and sale of marijuana, according to financial estimates provided by the California Board of Equalization. An economic analysis by California NORML estimates that a legal, statewide retail market for cannabis could generate additional revenues totaling some $12 to $18 billion dollars per year.
The noncommercial cultivation of marijuana for personal use – defined as ten plants or fewer – would not be subject to taxation under the proposal. In addition, AB 390 would not alter existing legislation on the use of medicinal cannabis, nor would it impose new taxes or sanctions on the medical cultivation of cannabis.
A recent Zogby poll of 1,053 likely voters, commissioned by California NORML and Oaksterdam University, reported that nearly six out of ten respondents on the west coast favor taxing and legally regulating cannabis like alcohol."
This bill is a winning proposition for California taxpayers," Gieringer said. "It's time that California stops wasting resources trying to enforce marijuana prohibition, and instead realizes the tax benefits derived from a legal, regulated cannabis market."

Marijuana is the most recreationally used illegal drug in the United States. It has been estimated that literally millions of otherwise law abiding Americans use the drug to get "high". Still there are millions of others that use the drug to ease their suffering from ailments like:
Insomnia, Cancer, Aids, or chronic aches and pains. While it is true some states have legalized Marijuana for medicinal purposes on the federal level Marijuana remains illegal to: possess, cultivate, import, sell or consume.
Thus doctors that could prescribe it to their patients as a treatment are fearful to do so even though they reside in a state that has medicinally legalized. It is truely ridiculas that Marijuana should be illegal in a nation where Tabbacco kills thousands of people each year from lung cancer and Alcohol causes a majority of fatal car accidents and petty desputes. Especially considering that Marijuana is not as nearly harmful to the body as the negative advertising around it (payed for by alcohol and ciggarette companies by large) would lead someone to believe. In fact In a study deliberately covered up by the U.S. gov't until recently, The National Toxicology Program found no evidence that Marijuana causes cancer. In fact the study proved the exact opposite.
Animals that were exposed to THC (the ancronym that stands for the active chemical in Marijuana also known as Tetrahydrocannabinol) showed less of a risk of getting cancer then those that weren't. Study after study has shown that Marijuana actually decreases a persons risk of getting cancer and that smoking Marijuana does not increase a persons risk of getting any of the cancers associated with smoking. So besides the fact that the drug may actually fight cancer why else should we legalize marijuana? Now I will give you some common sense reasons for legalization:
ECONOMIC REASONS:
Legalizing Marijuana would create a new multi-billion dollar industry in the United States with a substance that can be taxed by the gov't thereby generating more money to fund gov't programs and create more gov't jobs.The currently labor suffering midwest would be saved by Marijuana processing factories requiring large amount of labor creating thousands of new jobs for middle america.
Shipping commerce from middle America to the big cities and their ports for exporting and importing marijuana would increase dramatically.
The increased trade with marijuana producing nations would help to stabalize their struggeling third world economies. This would also help to curve illegal immagration to the states from major marijuana producing nations like Mexico by creating a new mexican industry fresh with new jobs. Lowing incentive for illegal immagrants to cross the border in search of work.
Small businesses that sell marijuana would see increased profits which they have been needing since many former ciggarette smokers are now quitting.
Alcohol and Tabbacco companies would be forced to push their products harder thereby dumping millions of dollars more into advertising.
Televised anti-marijuana ads would be a thing of the past making room for other commercials to advertise their products.
Marijuana can grow almost anywhere thus there is little danger of a weak crop and falling profitsNot to mention that Economists at large have thrown their favor behind legalization.

Wow. I just posted a blog yesterday (January 6, 2009) about voting ...org/ideas on my myspace at on my myyearbook.com/lizblackstone I didnt overly think about it. It was a good idea that I wanted to help support but I have a lot going on in life (I'll post a blog on it sometime in the near future).
I have the same routine every morning once I get to my office. Check my office emails and do what work needs to be done, and then I check my personal emails starting with myspace and then yahoo and then myyearbook. No one replied to the myspace blog which is pretty normal- I get lots of views on the blogs but not many comments which is cool. I feel appreciated just knowing people read my blog. So I was a bit surprised when I checked myyearbook page to find almost over 3 pages of comments on that blog. So this morning I prepared another blog for myyearbook and decided to share part of it on myspace to see if anyone had anything positive to add to the discussion:
I couldnt help but find some of the replying comments pretty funny~ Especially since it was a short blog about voting for a Department of Peace and it just mentioned other things to check out including a topic on legalization of marijuana (along with others including repealing the Patriot act etc). Yet somehow it sparked some fighting comments about the evils of marijuana.

Now that the can of worms has been opened, I guess I can comment a few words on the subject. I've studied the subject matter for years. Its interesting how people assume that just because you are for the legalization of the substance, that you are a lazy, irresponsible, hippie pot hot.
How come people don't go out on the streets protesting alcohol? My sister almost died because of a drunk driver. I have had friends die because of drunk drivers. I have had friends beaten by their lover under the influence of beer. And I dont care to think about the others- because there are too many personal situations that involve the negative side effects of alcohol and I understand the law of attraction.
I don't know anyone who has beat their wife after smoking weed. They usually sit down, eat and then watch TV. Or like many musicians I know who go to their room and play the guitar, piano, fiddle etc. or listen to music. Many artists I know sit down and draw the most beautiful pictures I have ever seen after smoking weed. The positive stories outweigh the negative.
The truth of the matter is that it was legal in this country before. It was not only legal but made MADATORY for farmers to grow!!
Thanks to propaganda the truth is often left alone. Humans have been using marijuana for centuries- for more than just medical purposes.

Benjamin Franklin started one of Americas first paper mills using cannabis- NOT tree pulp. The revolutionary newspapers and pamphlets like Common Sense, the Declaration of Independence and many others would not have been published if they had to procure their paper from England . Until 1883 80-90% of all paper in the world was made from cannabis including bibles, books, maps, money and newspapers.
Marijuana is also widely accepted in the medical field and has been used by the Chinese for over 5000 years. Numerous published studies suggest that marijuana has medical value in treating patients with serious illnesses such as AIDS, glaucoma, cancer, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and chronic pain. In 1999, the Institute of Medicine, in the most comprehensive study of medical marijuana's efficacy to date, concluded, "Nausea, appetite loss, pain and anxiety . . . all can be mitigated by marijuana." Allowing patients legal access to medical marijuana has been discussed by numerous organizations, including the AIDS Action Council, American Bar Association, American Public Health Association, California Medical Association, National Association of Attorneys General, and several state nurses associations.
Henry Ford, inventor of the Ford automobile, recognized the utility of the hemp plant. He constructed a car of resin stiffened hemp fiber, and even ran the car on ethanol made from hemp. Ford knew that hemp could produce vast economic resources if widely cultivated. Ford's optimistic appraisal of cellulose and crop based ethyl alcohol fuel can be read in several ways. First, it can be seen as an oblique jab at a competitor. General Motors had come to considerable grief the summer of 1925 over another octane boosting fuel called tetra-ethyl lead, and government officials had been quietly in touch with Ford engineers about alternatives to leaded gasoline additives.

You don't have to drink alcohol because it is legal, and you don't have to smoke weed because it is legal. It is a choice you make as an individual. There are laws that help make drinking alcohol a responsibility and there should be rules to go with marijuana. Obviously there should be an age limit. Kids do not need tobacco, alcohol or marijuana. And if people are not supposed to drink and drive, it would be beneficial not to smoke and drive.
Its one of those things I find funny. The thought that if weed was legal there would be no rules or regulations and it would be pandemonium. OF COURSE there should be rules and regulations, AND the government can make money from the taxation! It would free up space in the prisons, which everyone knows are overcrowded from non-violent crimes including marijuana possession and selling. Wow, I guess I could go on for a while, but its your turn to talk about it. If there is enough of a discussion I will write another blog with interesting history on the subject.
